Every Library and Museum Mapped

The Atlantic Cities has published a dot map of every museum and a dot map of every library in the USA. The two maps in Every Library and Museum in America were created by Justin Grimes at the National Day of Civic Hacking.

Both maps use the Google Maps API with CartoDB. The library map displays over 9,000 public library systems and the museum map 35,000 museums, galleries and other public collections.

Over the years we have seen a number of fast food and coffee shop maps of America. It is heartening then to hear from The Atlantic Cities that there are more libraries in the USA than there are McDonalds (about 14,000) or Starbucks (about 11,000).
