Mind Blowing Satellite Video Mapping


I told you that MapBox was innovating!

The video above shows HD video footage captured from Skybox’s SkySat-1 paired with the MapBox mapping platform. Using a mapping interface with the video allows users to pan, zoom and rotate the video as it plays.

On a separate but related note I've been regularly checking on the progress of UrtheCast. UrtheCast has now installed a HD video camera on the International Space Station. Soon they will begin to live broadcast video footage of the Earth from space. They are going to release some UrtheCast API's, so hopefully developers may well be able to create their very own satellite video maps using footage from the ISS.
