Real-Time Wind Mapping

Cameron Beccario's earth.nullschool.net uses D3.js to create an interactive globe that displays wind speeds in near real-time.

Since its release Cameron has continued to add more and more functions to the map. If you select the 'earth' title in the bottom left-hand corner of the site you can access a menu which allows you to change the map projection and to visualize other types of animated data.

Two weeks ago Cameron added a Misery Index (MI) option. This option shows what the air temperature 'feels like' by combining the heat index and wind chill on one map. Other options allow you to view cloud cover, world temperature and relative humidity.

It is also possible to change the globe to other map projections, including Azimuthal Equidistant, Equirectangular, Conic Equidistant, Orthographic and Stereographic projections.
