Where the Rich Live

Australia's Richest and Poorest Postcodes is a simple choropleth map showing the average annual salaries in Australia by postcode area. According to the map the richest Australian's live in harbourside Sydney, while the poorest live in rural NSW.

The data for the map comes from the 2012-13 taxation statistics. Six of the top ten richest postcodes are in Sydney. Seven of the poorest postcodes are in NSW.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2013 the average individual wage in Australia was $57,980 before tax (this figure excludes those living on pensions & those surviving only on government payments). 57,980 Australian dollars equates to roughly 45,457 U.S.dollars.
