Google Street View in Japan

With all the excitement of the launch of Google street view in Australia (see previous post) I failed to notice that street view has also been added to Japan as well.

Here is Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo:



The full list of towns that have street view imagery in Japan is:

Osaka, Kobe, Yokohama, Saitama, Chiba, Senda, Sapporo, Hakodate, Kyoto and Tokyo.

The full list of towns with street view in Australia is:

Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide, Cairns, Mt Isa, Canberra, Albany, Alice Springs, Rockhampton, Broome, Tamworth, Broken Hill, Karratha and Geraldton

Yokohama Landmark Tower - the tallest building in Japan
Tokyo Tower - the world's highest self-supporting steel tower
Tsūtenkaku - a well known landmark in Osaka
Kobe Port Tower - a hyperboloid structure in Kobe

    Also, a bunch of new US areas are marked for expansion. You can see the blue highlights on the streets when zoomed way out. On closer zoom however the blue goes away:

    Yes, I was very stoked that Japan finally got Street View. Having lived in Tokyo for the past 5 years, many times this would have come in handy for scouting a neighborhood or train station in this maze-like city.
