Monetising Google Maps

Lat49
Developers of Google Maps mash-ups can monetise their maps with lat49's geo-targeted and contextual display ads. Lat49, the on-line advertising network for interactive maps, announced this week that they have formed a number of new key partnerships.

Three of those partnerships are with websites that have decided to use Lat49's contextual ads in their Google Maps mash-ups.

Trails.com

Trails.com has more than 43,000 trail maps of hiking, mountain biking, water trails and winter trails in the United States.

It is possible to search for trails directly on a Google Map. When you zoom into different areas the available trails appear on the map, with different markers indicating the type of trail. Links to the trails currently in view on the map are also given in a sidebar.

ZipLocal

Canada's online search directory ZipLocal have also teamed up with Lat49 to monetise their maps of business searches. ZipLocal allows user to search for businesses in a particular area.

For example it is possible to search for appliances in Windsor and the results from ZipLocal's directory of over 1.3million businesses are shown tagged on a Google Map of the area. Double clicking on one of the map markers reveals the address of the business and user reviews.

Homezilla

Homezilla is a Canadian home buying and neighbourhood research assistant.

The site lets you enter a specific address and then select various types of amenities in the area: Schools, Child Care Services, Restaurants, Pubs, Coffee Shops, Grocery Stores, Credit Unions and Dog Parks can all be viewed tagged on the map.

Lat49 have also partnered this week with the Travel Ad Network (TAN). The Travel Ad Network is the leading vertical ad network in travel and this partnership with Lat49 means that together they can offer geo-contextual advertising display ads to travel websites and offer advertisers the means to reach consumers through on-line maps.
