Avoid Black Spots with Google Maps

SafeRoadMaps

SafeRoadMaps has undergone a major redesign and has added some new features. The site, from Researchers in the Center for Excellence in Rural Safety (CERS), uses data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System to map every reported traffic accident in the US.

Using the site's Google Map interface anyone in the United States can view the roads with the most fatal crashes in their neighborhood. Users have the ability to narrow down their search to see the age of the driver, whether speeding or drinking was a factor, and if the driver was wearing a seatbelt.

SafeRoadsMaps also now have a heat map feature. The heat map covers the whole of the United States and shows at a glance where fatal crashes have most occurred. It is possible to search the heat map by address and zip code. It is also possible to click on the map to view the fatality statistics at that location.
