The New York Coffee Drinker's Map

I like this simple Leaflet map in the New York Times, which includes some subtle design tricks to highlight New York's best locations to grab a great cup of coffee.

101 Places to Find Great Coffee in New York uses an effective gray-scale map style, which helps to emphasize the location markers on the map. When the map is zoomed out there are also no map labels, which again helps the markers to stand out on the map.

However users do need the map labels to be able to identify the exact locations of the cafes on the map. This is solved by adding street name and district labels to the map as you zoom in. The New York Times has also integrated the Google Places API with the Leaflet map so that users are able to search for great coffee locations by address.
