Where to Watch the World Cup

If you can't travel to Brazil to watch the World Cup in person then your next best bet is to watch the games on TV with other fans in a lively pub or bar. If you are going to watch a game in a bar then you will probably want to watch it in a bar popular with fans of one of the teams actually playing.

Luckily for New Yorkers the New York Times has released a handy map to find bars screening the World Cup. Where to Watch the World Cup in New York is a Leaflet map of some of the best venues in New York where you can watch World Cup games. The map includes a menu that lets you select a team and view the best bars to watch that team live on TV.

The map uses the same neat polygon knockout effect used by the New York Times in its 101 Places to Find Great Coffee in New York. If you want to create a similar looking map I recently wrote a short explanation about how to replicate the design of this map style with the Google Maps API.
