The
Zenrin Virtual Museum is a wonderful collection of antique vintage maps of Japan.
The site is in Japanese but navigation is pretty intuitive, so non-Japanese speakers should easily find their way around. The collection is organized by date, so if you select 'Collections' the maps are listed in chronological order from top to bottom (with the eldest maps at the top).
The maps themselves are presented as zoomable images. So why they are not strictly interactive digital maps you can zoom and pan the maps to examine them in detail.
