Explore the Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef, off the coast of Queensland Australia, is the largest coral reef system in the world. The reef structure is made up of billions of tiny organisms, known as coral polyps. It is also home to an incredibly wide diversity of marine life.

You can learn more about some of the amazing marine life that lives on the Great Barrier Reef on the amazing Reef Tracks. Using Reef Tracks you can follow the movements of a number of turtles, sharks and manta rays on their very own interactive tracking maps. Currently Reef Tracks features 38 interactive maps, showing the individual tracks of five separate turtles, over 20 tiger sharks, 5 whale sharks and a manta ray. Reef Tracker also includes an interactive map which tracks a ride-sharing submarine collecting scientific data around the Great Barrier Reef.

If you select any of the featured marine animals you can view an interactive map which shows where they have been tracked on the Great Barrier Reef over time. Each of these maps includes an animated timeline feature which allow you to view the selected animal's track moving over a period of time.

You can find more animal, bird and marine life tracking maps using the animal tracking tag on Maps Mania.
