Where are the Most Expensive Houses?
Homes Are Expensive is an interactive map that can help you find the cheapest and most expensive places to buy a property in the United States. The house prices are based on data from Zillow listings.
The map visualizes property prices across the USA using data scraped via hasdata.com in November 2025, and provides a comprehensive look at the 1.85 million homes currently on the market. What makes this map particularly useful is the way it allows users to switch between granular data and broader regional trends.
Users can toggle between three primary data layers:
Individual Home Points: Zoom in far enough and you can see every single Zillow listing. Clicking a point takes you directly to the property’s listing page.
Median Price by County:A classic choropleth view that highlights which regions of the country remain 'affordable' (relatively speaking) and which have decoupled from local wage realities.
Median Price Grid: This layer uses dynamically generated median boxes, which help smooth out the data and make it easier to identify clusters of affordability that might be missed when looking at individual points or broad county averages.
The map features a customizable color-coding system. By default, it uses a traffic-light system based on percentiles: green for the bottom 33% of prices, yellow for the middle, and red for the top tier. For those looking for something specific, you can manually set the price thresholds - for example, defining Green as anything under $335k - to see exactly where your budget fits on the map.
