How Many Steps up Mount Everest?
The UK's mapping agency Ordnance Survey has released an interesting map that allows you to discover how high you can you climb by using the stairs in your house, workplace or school.
To use the map you need to work out how many stairs you have climbed. You can then enter the number of steps into How How Can You Climb? and the map will show you which buildings or mountains you have climbed the equivalent of.
For example, if you enter 5,000 stairs you will be told that you could have climbed the Shard building in London and Snaefell mountain and that you only need another 752 steps to reach the summit of Scafell Pike. Each of the buildings and mountains listed can then be clicked on to view them on an Ordnance Survey map.
I cheated and had a look at the page source. I can therefore tell you that if you want to climb Mount Everest you need to climb 52,047 stairs.
