Satellite Imagery of Typhoon Jebi
Japan has been hit by the strongest typhoon it has experienced in over 25 years. Typhoon Jebi made landfall in western Japan on Tuesday with winds of up to 107mph.
You can view satellite imagery of the storm on EOSDIS Worldview. Worldview allows you to explore almost 20 years of global satellite imagery. The imagery comes from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument aboard NASA’s Terra and Aqua Earth observing satellites. If you open the 'Events' menu you can select 'Super Typhoon Jebi' to view the typhoon's track, the latest available satellite imagery and a precipitation layer.
You can explore animated satellite imagery of Typhoon Jebi from Himawari-8 Real-time Web. If you switch the date to 2018/09/04 you can see a short movie showing satellite imagery from the Himawari-8 satellite, operated by the Japan Meteorological Agency. There is a choice of two animated movies of satellite imagery over Japan (one showing an outline of Japan and one without the outline). There is also a 'Target area animation' which shows an animation of satellite imagery of just the typhoon.
