The UK Data Explorer has in the past created some great maps using the Google Maps API. These include Deprivation in London, the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation and the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation.
The latest map from the UK Data Explorer uses the Leaflet map library to provide a visualization of Operational UK Renewable Electricity Sites. The map uses data from the Department for Energy and Climate Change to show the location of renewable electricity sites in the UK.
The map reveals some interesting geographical patterns in the type of renewable energy being used in different parts of the country. Solar energy for example is less scarce the further north you travel (presumably because of less hours of sun). Hydro power is more popular in the Scottish highlands, offshore wind stations are most developed off the south-east coast and onshore wind farms are more developed in the north.
