Super Moon & Super Tides

On the 10th August you will be able to see an extra special Supermoon in the night sky. On the 10th the full Moon coincides with the perigee side of the Moon's orbit (when the Moon is closest to the Earth).

One effect of this Supermoon will be king tides. King tides are the highest tides, which occur when the moon is closest to the Earth. If you live in South Carolina you can help MyCoast: South Carolina document the predicted king tides.

MyCoast is a project of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control which wants your help to document the impact of the high tide in order to be able to analyze and better predict the effect of such coastal events.

The king tides will occur between August 8th-12th and MyCoast wants your king tide photos and witness reports of these tides. A Google Map displays the location of submitted photos and the tide witness reports.
