Here is a Google My Map from the Victoria Police Department that I meant to include in Monday's Australian round-up but then completely overlooked. As you can guess from the name this is a map of road fatalities in the Melbourne area in Australia.
As the Victoria police say 'it is a sobering thought' that each of the markers on the map represents someone killed in 2008. Each death is represented by a different marker showing whether the individual killed was a motorist, pedestrian or motorcyclist.
Assistant Commissioner Ken Lay says,
"People looking at the Victorian Road Fatalities Map might be surprised to see just how populated it is and hopefully it makes them think twice about their own behaviour on the roads."
Other Road Fatality Maps
- Todesopfer der Strasse - Victims of traffic accidents in and around Zurich.
- SafeRoadMaps - overlays statistics from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System on Google Maps to give a visual representation of traffic safety across the USA.
