September 11th Memorial Map

Make History

Make History is a website created by the National September 11th Memorial & Museum in partnership with design firm Local Projects. The website is a collective telling of the events of 9/11, through the eyes of those who experienced it.

The Make History site has already collected a wealth of powerful images and stories. These include the personal experiences at the World Trade Center site of Harry Zernike, Ron Agam and Hiro Oshima.

The site uses Google Maps Street View imagery as the backdrop for submitted photos and videos. To add your own story to the map click "Add Your Story." You can then share your experience of 9/11, adding your photos and videos at the spot where they were captured.

The contributed images, videos and personal stories will be time stamped and layered over the Street View imagery and will be placed into a chronological timeline of the events of 9/11.

The public is being invited to submit images, videos, and stories that relate to:
  • The terrorist attacks
  • The way those attacks were witnessed and experienced globally
  • Vigils across the United States and around the world
  • Aid efforts across the United States and the world
  • Documentation of the World Trade Center prior to 9/11
