MapBox are working on a new vector based Mapbox Terrain layer that looks absolutely stunning. The new layer will allow developers to display contour lines with elevation labels layered on top of the Mapbox Satellite view. This will be great for any developers looking to build hiking, cycling or other sports related maps.
MapBox say the new terrain layer will be available in the next month - for now you can preview the layer using the link above. With Google seemingly happy to allow the Google Maps API v3 to stagnate and with the news today that Cloudmade is closing its doors to smaller developers Mapbox are looking more and more like the natural first choice for map developers.
