Unpave Parking Lots, Put Up a Paradise

P2T Parking to Tree is an arcade-style map game designed to encourage players to participate in a form of urban greening.

The mission is simple: Turn parking spaces into trees across Berlin and help the city achieve its ambitious goal of planting a million trees by 2040. You've got 60 seconds on the clock!

The game drops you onto a real-world map of Berlin, challenging you to convert designated parking spots - marked by tiny parking signs - into saplings. You use the directional keys (←↑→↓) to move your avatar around the city grid, quickly turning concrete grey into environmental green (on a mobile device you can use the on-screen joy-stick control).

If you live in Berlin, you can use another map by Hans Hack to find the areas that are the furthest away from road traffic. His Retreats away from Streets map shows the point in every city block that is maximally distanced from any road used by cars.

On this map, circular markers are used to visualize the distance from each car-free retreat to the nearest street. Therefore, the largest circles on the map indicate the locations in Berlin which are furthest away from road traffic, identifying quiet havens within this bustling city.
