Wine Map USA

The everyvine map is attempting to map the world's vineyards and wineries. It has made a good start with this map of US wine regions, vineyards, shiners and wineries.

The map can help you discover which wines are available in the different US wine regions. Click on a region on the map and you can view links to the region's wine growing organizations. Select an individual winery and you can view a list of the types of grapes used, wines sold, the vineyard's size and its history.

The everyvine map also includes a soil type overlay which provides a snapshot of the type of soil on which the vines are grown (although the layer does seem to be missing a map key).

BYO GMap

GoBYO

In these cash strapped times one of the best ways to save money when eating out is to choose a Bring Your Own restaurant. GoBYO has a comprehensive database of restaurants that allow you to bring your own bottle of wine.

It is possible to search the GoBYO listings by restaurant name or search within a selected distance from a particular address. It is also possible to search by type of cuisine. Each restaurant displays a button for 'More Info, Maps & Reviews'.

The map view uses Google Maps to display the location of the restaurant and to show the number of stars the restaurant has based on Yelp reviews. Details of the restaurant, including any corkage fees and price range of the restaurant, are given in the map sidebar.

Searching for a Merlot on Google Maps

Grappos.com

Grappos.com is an online store locator for wine. The site has a huge database of wines from wineries, distributors and retailers which means they are able to tell you which local store is stocking the wine that you want.

To search for a particular type of wine you just need to enter the name of the wine and your location and Grappos.com will show you all the stores selling that wine on a Google Map. You can even create a link to any search by executing a search and clicking on "Create Link". This service is already being used by wineries as a product locator on their own sites.

Grappos.com is also about to launch a blog that will feature user reviews. There is an iPhone application in the pipeline that should be available soon.
