Your Birthday Map
I was born on the very first day of the Dominican Civil War (also known as the April Revolution). Meanwhile, on a completely different continent, Luciano Pavarotti was making his La Scala debut in a revival of La Bohème. Not to brag, but it seems the universe scheduled a pretty dramatic day for my arrival.
Over the last twenty years of Maps Mania I’ve seen more Wikipedia maps than I can count. NearbyWiki, Geopedia, Wiki-Atlas and Wikimap are just four of the most recent examples Now along comes Landnotes, the newest map that plots Wikipedia places and events on an interactive globe.
But Landnotes has a little twist - it lets you filter everything by date.
At the moment, Landnotes has 6.5 million events mapped from 400,000 Wikipedia articles (with an assist from Google Gemini). Naturally, the first thing I did was rewind history to the exact day I was born. And that’s where Landnotes really shines. With its date controls you can jump to any day in history. Pop in your birthday and you’ll instantly see everyone with a Wikipedia article who was born on the exact same day as you - and all the major events that happened as you made your debut on planet Earth.
