Mapping the Light: Sunrise & Sunset
Sunrise and Sunset is an interactive map that displays the sunrise and sunset times for any location on Earth, for any day of the year. It also visualizes the sun's altitude throughout the seasons.
By moving the white dot around the calendar ring, you can change the date to view how daylight hours shift across the year. A yellow curve tracks the sun's altitude above the horizon from dawn to dusk, while a shaded yellow silhouette behind it reveals the full envelope of solar altitudes across the entire year. This makes seasonal contrasts instantly visible - a visual effect that is especially dramatic at higher latitudes.
The project heavily recalls Volodymyr Agafonkin’s classic SunCalc. Since Volodymyr is the creator of Leaflet, it feels incredibly fitting that Sunrise and Sunset was built using the Leaflet mapping library.
