Mapping the Severity of Road Accidents
Gravité des Accidents de 2006 à 2011 is a map showing the severity of road accidents in France between 2006 and 2011. Rather than create a simple heat-map based on the number of accidents the map instead assigns a severity score to each commune in France.
Therefore the map does not simply show the number of road accidents in each French commune but the severity of the accidents. The severity score is calculated by the number of deaths, the number of hospitalizations and the number of lightly injured arising from all the road accidents which occurred in each commune - with deaths being given the highest severity score and the lightly injured the lowest severity score.
You can click on each commune on the map to view the total number of road accidents, the number of deaths, hospitalizations and the number of lightly injured.
