Worldwide Drownings on Google Maps

Apparently drowning is the third leading cause of accidental death worldwide. In order to help spread information about the dangers of drowning The Global Drowning Tracker has created a Google Map to record instances of drowning.

The map includes a number of filtering options which allow the user to browse the drownings reported by age, gender and location. Users can report drowning incidents to the map via a short form or by a SMS text message. The Global Drowning Tracker hopes that "through awareness, recognition and action, drowning accidents can be eliminated, if not greatly reduced".

From a dev standpoint this was a great project to work on and from an objective standpoint this is going to be such an effective tool for raising awareness to this preventable issue. Thanks for sharing!
