New York's New Hurricane Zone Finder
During and after Superstorm Hurricane Sandy last year the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications online evacuation map received unprecedented amounts of traffic. Unfortunately this increase in traffic slowed performance and blocked updates.
The department has therefore decided to turn to Google Maps Engine for the newly launched Hurricane Zone Finder. This Google Map shows New York residents their nearest evacuation area, but can also handle thousands of visitors to the site. The map highlights color-coded evacuation zones, helping people easily determine if they need to evacuate and find out where they should go in an emergency.
