Terrasound have mapped a number of 'soundwalks' in Portugal, Turkey, Switzerland and California. It is an interesting concept of being able to listen to the sounds of an environment during a walk whilst following the location on a Google Map.
It is strangely compelling listening to the snatches of conversation and music as the walk progresses and very interesting to compare the soundscapes of different countries and cultures.
Playing with this map reminded me of a post on the Digital Urban blog called Digital Audio and the Perception of Space on how our perception of urban space is based on sight, smell, sound and touch and how the rise of portable mp3 players changes our perceptions of our environment. Digital Urban posted this YouTube video as an example.
