There is an episode of the sitcom The Big Bang Theory in which the character Sheldon decides to relocate to Bozeman, Montana, after his apartment is broken into and robbed.
One of the reasons Sheldon has for choosing Bozman for his new home is because of its low levels of crime. Of course the first thing that happens to Sheldon on his arrival in the city is that he is relieved of all his possessions by a local criminal.
What Sheldon failed to do was consult the
Bozeman Crime Data map. Using the map Sheldon could have identified and avoided the city's crime hotspots, by time of day and by day of the week. He could have also queried the map to view crime rates by type of crime.
