The Nazi Book Burning Map

In the 1930's the Nazis in Germany began a campaign against what they called the 'un-German spirit'. The campaign culminated in ceremonially book burnings across Germany and Austria of books by socialist, communist, Jewish and other authors whose writings were viewed as subversive.

Verbrannte Orte is a German website dedicated to documenting and mapping the locations of the Nazi book burnings. The map has just launched in Beta and has mapped a number of locations throughout Germany. Seven locations (Pirna, Dresden, Neubrandenburg, Neustrelitz, Rostock, Greifswald and Schwerin) include panoramic images of the book burning locations and detailed information (in German).
