The Yarnell Wildfire Long-Form Story Map
A wildfire that started in Yarnell Hill, Arizona in June of last year eventually led to the greatest loss of firefighters since 9/11.
No Exit is a brilliantly realized long-form examination of how nineteen elite firefighters perished in the Yarnell wildfire. The account includes photos, illustrations and an OpenStreetMap animated map. The map starts by showing the location of where the fire started and then chronologically narrates how the fire spread and eventually overtook the Granite Mountain crew, leading to the loss of the nineteen men.
The Yarnell Hill fire lasted 10 days, it eventually burnt over 13 square miles of wilderness, one hundred homes and led to the loss of the lives of nineteen of the Granite Mountain crew.
