Google Updates US Map Tiles

Google Maps have today released a new base map dataset for the USA. The new imagery map tiles have been created using a number of sources including, the Census, land surveying, specialized data sources like the USDA Forest Service's Forest Boundaries and the US Geological Survey's National Hydrography Dataset.

Many more tracks & trails added to Google Maps

Google say this has led to a big improvement in USA map tiles, particularly for areas like parks and water bodies. Many university campuses are also now mapped, as well as many more tracks and trails. The expansion of tracks and trails, Google says, will allow them to soon release bike directions on Google Maps.
