Naming Streets for Martin Luther King
This week National Geographic celebrated Martin Luther King Day by releasing an interactive map showing all the places in the world named for the civil rights leader. Explore Thousands of Streets Named for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. maps the more than 1,000 streets across the globe that honor the memory of Martin Luther King Jr.
The map includes Street View imagery of each of the streets named for Martin Luther King (where available). These include 955 streets in the USA alone. You can read more about the history of naming streets for Martin Luther King in the accompanying article Where the Streets Have MLK's Name.
The data for the National Geographic map comes from OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap was also one of the sources used by Slate when they mapped Every John F. Kennedy Street, Park, Airport, and School in the World back in 2013. The Slate map was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination.
