Australian Open Data on Google Maps

All Things Spatial has written up a great introduction to the Australian Capital Territory government's new open data platform dataACT. The open data platform provides access to government data sets from across the ACT public service.

It is possible to browse dataAct for data sets by category or by keyword search. Map developers who are most interested in location data can jump straight to the maps section of dataACT, which provides Google Maps visualisations of ACT data sets. This includes (but isn't limited to)  maps of school locations, bus-stops, bushfire data and admin boundaries.

These Google Maps of ACT government data are useful on their own but the great thing is that if you think you can present the data in a better way you are free to download the data and create your own Google Maps.
