Australian mapping blog
All Things Spatial reports on a recent trend in Australian local government for using Google mapping technologies to present GIS data to the public. Recently state agencies in both New South Wales and Queensland have released Google Earth files to help make GIS data more widely accessible.
The
Queensland Globe is an initiative of the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines. It contains a number of layers that can be viewed in Google Earth such as 'land parcels', 'boundaries' and 'road and rail centre lines'.
The
NSW Globe similarly allows users to view a range of state data in Google Earth. Layers include 'land parcels', boundaries' and historical aerial imagery of the state.
