Mapping Al Qaeda in West Africa
The Long War Journal has mapped over 100 Al Qaeda attacks in West Africa. So far this year over 100 terrorist attacks have been attributed to Al Qaeda in West Africa. The Long War Journal - Al Qaeda Map documents the locations of these terrorist attacks in the region.
The map uses color-coded categorized markers to indicate the year each attack took place and the type of terrorist attack carried out. The colors indicate the year of each attack and the icons show whether each attack was a rocket, IED, suicide bombing or other type of terrorist attack.
The majority of Al Qaeda attacks in the region over this period have been in Mali. The Long War Journal suggests that this is in response to the intervention of France in northern Mali. Despite France's success in ousting Jihadists in northern Mali, Al Qaeda has responded by intensifying its terrorist campaign.
