Visualizing 19th Century New York
Visualizing 19th Century New York was created to support the Bard Graduate Center Gallery's exhibition. The exhibition explored how New York was visualized in the 19th century in photography, printmaking and other visual arts.
The interactive map is used to plot landmarks and commercial spaces important to New York's 19th century visual arts & industry. It also provides links to essays and objects that featured in the Bard Graduate Center Gallery's exhibition.
The interactive map uses Matthew Dripps's 1852 Map of the City of New York as its base map. If you are interested in the visual representations of New York which were created in the 19th century then the blue circle markers provide links to the original images. If you select a marker on the map you can view the images, the exhibition notes on the image and click-through to view related essays.
