Magic Animated Weather
majicweather is a series of beautiful looking animated wind maps for locations around the world. The site features a large global animated map of wind patterns and a number of more localized animated maps for regions of the world.
The animated maps are made using GFS forecast data from the United States National Climatic Data Center. The data is downloaded every 6 hours to create new animated maps of wind patterns. The colors used on the maps do not indicate temperature but are based on direction. In the northern hemisphere northerly winds are shown as blue, while southerly winds are orange. In the southern hemisphere the colors are switched so blue are southerly winds and orange indicates northerly winds.
The code behind majicweather is available on GitHub.
