Tracking the World's Toughest Race
At the age of 71 British explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes has decided it is time to stop taking it easy. He is therefore taking part in the world's toughest footrace, the Marathon des Sables. The Marathon des Sables is a six-day, 156 mile long ultra-marathon through the Sahara Desert.
You can follow Sir Ranulph's progress in his grueling Saharan marathon on the Ran Dashboard. The dashboard allows you to replay Sir Ranulph Fiennes' race so far on a Google Map. It also features photos taken during the race and a whole host of data on Sir Ranulph's speed, heart rate, number of steps etc.
If you want to know how the other competitors in the Marathon des Sables are getting on you can view them on the 2015 Marathon des Sables live tracking map.
The map shows the route of the race, kilometer markers and most importantly it allows you to view the current position of all the competitors in the race. If you enter a runner's name into the search box you can view their live position on the map (type in 'Fiennes' to see where Sir Ranulph is right now) .
