Google Maps the Universe
Over the last couple of years Google has been rather neglectful of their astronomical maps, Google Sky, Google Moon and Google Mars. The search function in Google Sky has been broken for a few months now and whilst the Mars layer in Google Earth was last week updated with some amazing high-definition imagery the same imagery has not been added to Google Mars.
However the Google Data Arts Team has just released an amazing interactive visualization of over 100,000 of our nearest stars, called 100,000 Stars. The map uses WebGL so you will need to view it in Google Chrome. The map includes a tour of the galaxy or you can just explore the universe at your own leisure.
