Putting Australia's Culture on the Map
The Cultural Atlas of Australia is a Google Map charting the locations used in Australian literature and film. The aim of the map is to trace the ways in which Australian places and spaces have been represented in fictional texts.
The map can be searched by narrative setting and by shooting location (for film). It also possible to search the atlas by title, author, date and key words. If you search for an individual book or film you can view a Google Map highlighting all the locations or settings used in that text.
So far The Cultural Atlas of Australia has concentrated on contemporary books and films set in the Australian landscape but has plans to include more historical narratives and narratives set in Australia's urban centres.
