The International Airport Slideshow Map

Random Airports is an interesting Google Maps slideshow of international airports. Well - it's interesting if you like airports or if you are interested in the Google Maps API.

Random Airports animates through satellite views of random international airports. The format of the slideshow isn't new. David Schmidt's Chuchichechocha and Paul Rademacher's Stratocam are two similar Google Maps powered slideshows that celebrate the beauty of planet Earth by animating through stunning satellite views.

If you don't enjoy looking at maps of airports then you might be interested in the JavaScript code behind the Random Airports slideshow. There are a couple of interesting things going on in this Google Maps slideshow. I particularly like the transition fades between each different satellite view. The map bounds function is also clever, ensuring that each airport is centered correctly on the map and that the map is set to the correct zoom level so that each airport fits correctly in the map view.
