Mapping a 100 Years of Revolution
100 Years of Unrest is a Leaflet map plotting the history of social unrest across the world over the last century. The map's focus is on social unrest caused by the fight for human rights, freedom and independence.
100 Years of Unrest shows the locations of major protests, uprisings, rebellions & revolts, civil wars, wars for independence and revolutions across the globe from 1913 until the present day. The map includes a timeline control which enables you to filter the map by date-range.
The data for the map comes from Wikipedia. The map's creators admit that the map is by no means complete. However the map does have enough data to pick up some of the major trends in social unrest over the last 100 years. For example, if you set the timeline to show just the data from 2011, you can clearly see the results of the Arab Spring on the map in north Africa.
