Mapping Global Press Freedom

Every year Reporters Without Borders releases the annual World Press Freedom Index. The Index ranks countries around the world based on the amount of freedom they grant their media.

The results of the 2015 World Press Freedom Index can be viewed on a Leaflet powered map. Countries on the map are colored based on their press freedom rankings. I hate to make spurious correlations - but basically the colder a country is then the more likely it is to have press freedom (except Russia!).

The map includes the option to also view the 2013 & 2014 Press Freedom Index scores for each country. Alternatively you can check-out the the 2014 World Press Freedom Index map. Last year's map included an interesting 3d view which visualizes the press freedom index as a topographical map.
