Mapping American Poverty
The photographer Matt Black has been traveling around the United States with MSNBC documenting the lives of the country's poorest communities. You can view Matt's photos and MSNBC's reports into what they discovered on their journey in the Geography of Poverty.
This long-form story includes stories and photographs from across the United States and also a few interactive maps and other interactive visualizations which highlight U.S. poverty statistics by county, city and state.
The Geography of Poverty is divided into four main routes: the Southwest, South, Northeast and Northwest. Each of these four sections includes a map showing the route taken by MSNBC and Matt Black. However the main attraction in each of the sections has to be Matt Black's photographs and MSNBC's reports into life below the breadline in today's United States.
