Mapping the Marbled Murrelet

Vancouver Island Mamu Map

The Marbled Murrelet, a small seabird of the auk family, has been experiencing declining numbers mainly because of logging of their nest trees. British Columbia has an estimated 45,000-50,000 Marbled Murrelets, located in highest density on the west coast of Vancouver Island. The Vancouver Island Mamu Map is a launch pad for spatial information about the Marbled Murreleton and the island.

This Google Maps mashup includes an amazing amount of GIS data about the island and the impact on the habitat of the Murrelet. The data is organised into a number of layers that can be turned on or off on the map via the map sidebar. The layers include Planning Boundaries, Protected Areas and Change Detection.
