Maps in Literary Research
"All the world's a Google Map and all the men and women mere data-points upon it". - Billy Shakespeare
The TransVis Othello Time Map is part of a research project by Swansea University to explore how digital tools can support literary research. TransVis collects, digitises, analyses and compares translations and variations of literary works. The TransVis Othello Time Map plots when and where 37 German translations of Shakespeare’s Othello were written and published in Germany.
Individual German translations of Othello are displayed on the map by date. You can select any of the map markers to learn more about each individual translation of Shakespeare's play. You can also use the time-line control to filter the translations displayed on the map by date.
