The Global Habitat Protection Map
The Terrestrial Habitat Protection map visualizes nationally-designated protected areas in countries around the world. You can use the map to view the habitat types available in any country and explore which habitats are protected by nationally-designated parks or conservation areas.
The Environmental Performance Index specifies 14 categories of climatic and geographic communities called 'biomes'. If you click on a country on the map you can view what percentage of each of these biomes are protected in the selected country. You can also see what percentage of any biome in each country is representative of the global total for that biome.
The map also includes information on a number of animal species. Select one of the animal icons on the map and you can view details about its natural habitat and the global threats to its habitat.
