The Lewis & Clark Trail on Google Maps

The Lewis and Clark Expedition (1803–1806), headed by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, was the first American overland expedition to the Pacific coast and back. These two Google Maps mashups let you follow the trail from the comfort of your own home.

The Lewis and Clark Trail

This unique travel guide locates hundreds of attractions along the trail pioneered by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The map includes a number of layers which can be used to view categories of markers on the map.

The categories include, historic sites, national and state parks, wildlife refuges, museums, campgrounds and inns, B&Bs and hotels. The site also includes a number of videos so that you can get a sneak preview of some of the sights along the route.

Lewis and Clark

Starting in Pittsburgh this Google Map takes you on a stage by stage journey westwards across America, following the trail blazed by Lewis and Clark. The mashup uses excerpts from the diary of Meriwether Lewis to help evoke the historical journey.

When you close the information window of a map marker the map automatically scrolls to the tag marking the next stage in the journey.
