New Way to Monetise Google Maps

The Google Maps team have announced a new GoogleBar control in the Maps API to allow users to search maps for local businesses, landmarks and points of interest.

Google have added advertising targeted to the user's searches in the results. Map developers can therefore use the new map control to monetise their maps. To do this you will need a Google AdSense for Search (AFS) id and pass it into the GoogleBar constructor.

You can see the new GoogleBar Control in all its glory on this Google Map of Santa Monica Pier.

There are fuller instructions on how to add the new control and add your Search (AFS) on the Google Geo Developers Blog, Changes to the GoogleBar.
